Everyone recognizes the excellent work done by Xiaomi in its MIUI interface. However, apart from its awesomeness, a well-known security company has recently discovered critical security flaws in the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi’s MIUI.

Everyone recognizes the excellent work done by Xiaomi in its MIUI interface. With frequent updates, this search always brings the latest news and features.

But MIUI is not without its problems, and a security company has detected serious flaws in this interface, which can expose user data and even smartphones themselves.

Those who discovered these shortcomings were the security company eScan, which in its publication details all the problems found at MIUI. These are serious flaws that Xiaomi will have to fix soon, otherwise, users and their devices will be vulnerable to data theft.

One of the most serious flaws is in the MI-Mover application. This is dedicated to copying and migrating data between an Android device and a Xiaomi smartphone. Being a normal function, no problem would be expected. The truth is that when MI-Mover is used between two Xiaomi smartphones this one copies more data than expected, bringing sensitive and confidential information.

This in practice can lead to data theft if an attacker has physical access to the smartphone, thus copying all the information to the victim. Android has sandbox mechanisms to isolate applications and their data, but MIUI seems to bypass this security mechanism.

A second major flaw lies in the way MIUI treats applications with administrator permissions on Android. Typically, they have access to sensitive operating system zones and therefore require a PIN or password to be removed.

What can be seen in MIUI is that these applications can be removed without any authentication. This can lead to something as simple as removing Device Manager from Android or any other anti-theft application.

There are a number of other issues reported, such as the Work-Profile Admin app that is only hidden when it is uninstalled, and the spaces for professional profiles that can not be distinguished from personal ones.

The truth is that these failures require physical access to a Xiaomi smartphone that does not have an active password to exploit, but that does not make them less serious. Xiaomi has already reacted and advises users to protect their devices with a simple password.

It was not advanced by Xiaomi if it would deal with these problems immediately, but it is expected that MIUI 9, to be released soon, will correct all these flaws.

Pokemon Go may be one of the most installed gaming apps on iOS and Android, but is its popularity declining?

A new report has been released detailing the most installed Android apps in Q1 2017.

Unsurprisingly, Pokemon Go was in the top 50, behind the likes of Facebook, WhatsApp, Netflix and Twitter.

According to the Avast report, Pokemon Go was the 36th most installed app on Android in Q1, ahead of fellow gaming apps like Clash of Clans, Super Mario Run and 8 Ball Pool.

But Pokemon Go isn't the most popular gaming app on the list, charting below Candy Crush Saga at 23, Clash Royale at 35 and more surprisingly, Subway Surfers at 33.

None of the games were listed in the top 10 battery draining apps, or in the top 10 storage hogging apps.

The news comes during the Pikachu Outbreak event in Yokohama, Japan.

The Pikachu Outbreak event is a week long celebration of Pokemon, including Pokemon Go.

Special park events let fans capture Shiny Pikachu Pocket Monsters, as well as an abundance of Pokemon from different in-game regions.

There's also an array of events taking place, including a carnival, a stadium gathering and dances.

fans are flocking to Yokohama in Japan, where the Pikachu Outbreak event is in full swing.

UK fans can also capture unusual Pokemon, as rare Pocket Monsters come to UK cities.

Trainers in select cities across Europe will be able to capture the likes of Kangaskhans and Unowns.

"This unusual occurrence is predicted to last until August 21."

These Pokemon can be found in UK cities like Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow, London and Manchester.

WhatsApp will GIVE you MONEY!

San Francisco/New Delhi: WhatsApp will soon facilitate instant money transfer via the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transaction system, shows a new Beta update by the Facebook-owned mobile messaging platform.

According to a blog website WABetaInfo late on Wednesday, WhatsApp was finally giving shape to its plans towards bank-to-bank transfer using the UPI system.

In the new version '2.17.295' through the Google Play Beta Programme, it says: "WhatsApp Payments: the immediate bank-to-bank transfer with UPI."

The official "WhatsApp Payments" section for Android is still under development.

"In order to use WhatsApp Payments, you will have to accept the WhatsApp Payments and Bank Terms and Privacy Policy," the blog added.

Launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and regulated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), UPI facilitates the instant fund transfer between two bank accounts on the mobile platform.

With over 200 million monthly active users (MAUs), WhatsApp has been in the news for working towards a UPI-based interface in its platform.

According to media reports, WhatsApp is already in talks with the NPCI and a few banks to facilitate financial transactions via UPI.

Some mobile messaging platforms like WeChat and Hike Messenger already support UPI-based payment services.

The NPCI announced in July that UPI has crossed the 10 million transaction mark last in June 2017, registering a 10-fold increase in 11 months from one million UPI transactions in August 2016.

"Transactions on UPI are growing exponentially due to increased acceptance among member-banks, merchants and consumers. Plus, the UPI-powered Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) has also been a significant contributor," NPCI Managing Director and CEO A.P. Hota had said.

The firm said the volume of UPI transactions was at 10.35 million in June, up from 9.36 million in May and 7.20 million in April.

The UPI transaction system was launched in August 2016 with 21 banks and was now offered by around 50 banks. Hota said around 22 per cent transactions are merchant-based which is also growing rapidly.

To recap on the Jio Phone, the entry-level phone will come with unlimited voice, data, and texts. Customers will have to recharge with a Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan monthly pack of Rs. 153, which will give them free voice, texts, unlimited data (high-speed data capped at 500MB per day), and free access to Jio apps for 28 days. At the 40th AGM, Ambani also announced an accessory "Jio Phone TV-Cable" that will allow users to connect their phones with any kind of television sets. For connecting phone to TV, users will have to recharge with Rs. 309 per month pack for large screen.

Talking about Jio Phone features, the device comes with an alphanumeric keypad, 2.4-inch display with QVGA display, microSD card slot, torchlight, FM radio. It will be a single SIM handset that works only on 4G VoLTE networks. The phone supports voice commands and 22 Indian languages, and has a panic button as well. A short demo of the voice command feature on Jio Phone was showcased during the keynote presentation where the device was able to play music via Jio Music. Additionally, the handset will also come with a panic button that is enabled when long-pressing the number 5. Moreover, the Jio phone will come with advanced NFC support for digital payments that will be rolled out to users via OTA software upgrade. Qualcomm and Spreadtrum have confirmed their chips power the new feature phone.

The phone does not have WhatsApp supportat the moment, though we did catch glimpse of a web browser, Facebook, and PM Modi's Mann Ki Baat broadcast during the unveiling at the Reliance AGM.

According to analysts, Reliance Jio aims to reach another 100 million users with its new feature phone; this will be in addition to the 125 million users that already use the Jio telecom network. Moreover, the 4G VoLTE-enabled feature phone will completely change the low-end phone segment and bring about a new era of innovation in this segment. On the other hand, industry body Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has termed the Rs. 0 pricing a clever marketing move by the company and attempt to save government levies like licence fee.
